be interesting!

very recently i was accepted to Cornell GeoData, one of the Project Teams here. a project team at cornell is just a fancy, well-funded engineering club that works on large-scale engineering projects and competes (sometimes) in collegiate competitions (think FSAE, drone racing, combat robotics, etc)

i don’t consider myself particularly smart or excellent in any technical field, but i do pride myself on being very interesting. by this i mean i enjoy many different hobbies and learn about anything i can, resulting in me having a wealth of information to make small talk with.

i think this contributes a lot to my general success when it comes to interviews or meeting new people as i can connect with them much faster and speak about their interests. it is also beneficial to be generally very curious about anything another person has to say and really try to learn something from them.

so why did i mention geodata? well, i recently had my full behavioral + technical interview for geodata and i thought it was one of the best interviews (if not the best) i’ve ever done. of course, i got through the technical portion without much issue but i think i was also able to connect really well with the interviewers/captains and had interesting things to say. when i finished talking about my high school research, one of the interviewers said they actually learned something new from what i said, which i thought was really really really awesome!

so yeah. i think the takeaway is to just be really curious and be happy to learn about anything and everything. :)

an issue i have still is i tend to yap a little too much in conversations. especially when the topic comes to something i have a special interest in, i tend to talk a lot and maybe overpower the conversation. i am trying to do this less, so i hope i haven’t been too annoying or obnoxious to the people i interact with.
