High Point State Park Hike

Overall Thoughts

Driving & Parking

I parked at the High Point State Park Office which had free parking and was pretty empty even during the early afternoon. The visitor center and gift shop was great and I picked up a hoodie for $20.

Hike

After crossing the street leading into the parking lot, I followed the AT up to the monument. The start of the trail is pleasant with some nice shade from the trees. The trail quickly opens up as I ascended an there was a nice viewing pavilion with a view of the nearby hills and the actual monument.

The monument is free and open to the public. You can climb the 300 or so stairs up to the top of the monument, the officially highest elevation in New Jersey. The view at the top on a sunny day is beautiful, you can see the shadows that the clouds cast on the rolling hills and ridges of northern NJ.
