If you want to be taken seriously, stop writing with ChatGPT

During my daily Hacker News doomscroll, I occasionally come across an article that was blatantly copy-pasted from ChatGPT (or another LLM). The text contains all the hallmarks of low-quality AI slop writing, from using “it’s not <x>, it’s <y>” constructions to unreasonably placed lists that

The style and tone of LLM writing is insipid and just sounds… off. It’s incredibly obvious when text is copied verbatim from ChatGPT and it makes the writing seem rushed and careless. It shows you (as the author) didn’t take the time to think about your writing. If you don’t care enough to at least fix the AI’s language, why should we (as readers) care to read your post in detail?

As humans we read through the lens of our own biases. When your post is obviously ChatGPT-ed, you add to the bias against your writing. You are sabotaging your own persuasion and communication.

It doesn’t matter if your English is poor or you aren’t great at writing. No one expects you to be the next Mark Twain. The key is you should be behind every word you publish. I firmly believe your writing will carry more weight and provoke more thought if you wrote it by yourself, even if your English is broken or incorrect.
